Introduction:

Depends on size, activated carbon can be classified into Powdered Activated carbon (PAC) and Granular Activated carbon (GAC).

Manufactured by direct activation, coal based powdered activated carbon have been specifically developed for the removal of a broad range of organic contaminants from potable, waste and process waters.
Powdered activated carbon (PAC) has a relatively smaller particle size when compared to granular activated carbons and consequently, presents a large surface to volume ratio.
As such, PAC is not commonly used in a dedicated adsorber vessel, due to the high head loss that would occur. Instead, PAC is generally added directly to other process units, such as raw water intakes, rapid mix basins, clarifiers, and gravity filters.

Application:

Air purification:

Coal activated carbon powder is suitable to remove waste gas of burning rubbish. For size, 200mesh or 325mesh is available. With low moisture of fine powder, it will be effective to convert the harmful smell to better air for emission.

Water treatment:
Activated carbon removes a wide range of organic contaminants from water, including some types of bacteria and algae. VOCs (volatile organic compounds), pesticides, herbicides, and micropollutants are also removed. It converts chlorine to chloride, removing the chemical taste and smell of treated water, as well as tannins and phenols that also affect water’s look and taste.
